Chinese New Year in Chinatown [#4]

Happy Year of the Monkey!

Also called Lunar New Year, the Chinese New Year is the most important festival in China and many Asian countries. It’s a 15-day event that starts with the New Moon on the first day of the new year and ends on the full moon fifteen days later. The DMV area celebrates the Chinese New Year with parades, live musical performances, Dragon Dances, and a host of other cultural events.

The image takes place on the corner of 7th and H St NW, where a big colorful dragon plays with two children. The Friendship Archway designed by Alfred H. Liu stands in the background while big screens display the greatest American celebration, one that this year coincided with the Lunar New Year: the Super Bowl.
