Birds of Washington DC [#33]

This year I’ve been volunteering at the Lights Out DC program, which documents bird collisions in windows during migration times. We collect dead or injured migratory birds. Here is a photo of all the birds collected in a year, a big contrast if we compare it with the amount of birds collected 3 years ago (shown in the printed picture). If you’re interested in participating, we’re looking for volunteers. Please visit citywildlife.org for additional information.

This week’s illustration is a nonexhaustive list of birds in DC. The District is home to more than 325 species of birds. The area has plenty of nature to host a very rich wildlife: The Chesapeake Bay and the Rock Creek Park are well known migration spots. Know your feathered neighbors!
